Growing up whenever I was sick with a runny nose, cough and congestion my mom would always care for me with lots of warm soup and Vick’s VapoRub. While being sick was never fun I now have fond memories of my amazing mom caring for me on those tough days of being sick and lovingly applying the Vick’s VapoRub on my chest. It helped to aid my coughs and the one thing you never forget if you ever used Vick’s VapoRub is the smell.
Now, my daughter is 5 and we were hit with a nasty virus that turned into a terrible lingering cough and infection. Now, it’s my turn to make my beautiful little girl chicken noodle soup and rub Vick’s VapoRub on her chest. And so I did, each night and while she was reluctant to let me rub the medicine on her chest I told her stories of how my mommy (grandma) used to do it for me and how it made me feel so much better. Then her daddy and me joked with her about the familiar smell of Vick’s VapoRub and took big whiff of her menthol scented chest taking in that familiar childhood scent we all know and love because of the comfort it brought us.
Her cough was a stubborn one but the Vick’s VapoRub helped my baby girl sleep more comfortably throughout the night with less fits of coughing. Here is a picture of her finally resting comfortably after applying some –
It’s one medicine I can give her with comfort because not only does it work fast it doesn’t cause the drowsiness or side effects of other medicines when used as directed.
