Our First Family Vacation!

Florida Trip

You may have noticed the new tab on my blog entitled Travel. I’m pretty excited about this tab because it means after nearly 3 years of no vacations we are finally planning our first family vacation! The last time we took a vacation it was just me and the husband. We had a very relaxing trip to Cancun, Mexico!

I’m super excited to say the words, we’re going to Orlando, Florida!

Florida Trip

I’m beyond excited to be planning our trip. We’ll be driving from our home here in the mitten down the long path of I-75 to Florida. Brave? Yes, certainly a brave idea with 2 young kids but I just have visions of being “that guy” on a plane with two screaming children.

Besides, a family road trip will be fun! We’re going to map out a few fun stops along the way to get out, stretch our legs and entertain the kids.

I’ve got the hotel booked and we’re planning to visit Sea World and Disney World for sure and we’re looking at a few other activities that will be fun for our toddler while we’re there.  I cannot wait and we’re going to share our journey with you – stay tuned!

In the meantime – I’d love to hear your tips for us on traveling with 2 kids and going to the theme parks?

  1. My first tip, especially with toddlers – naptime. You cannot go gung ho all day long without rest, even for adults. Take breaks!

I like that you planned fun stops and it seems like you’ll be taking your time traveling – great idea!

    1. We’re definitely going to be fitting in some nap time somewhere in there 🙂 Thankfully our hotel is really close to all the action so it’s not a big deal to go and have a little nap time break, like you said – I’ll probably need one too LOL!

  2. YAYYYY! For Florida! 🙂 We are in Florida. We were in Orlando over the Fathers Day weekend. There are alot of things to keep busy and active while in that area. Theres always mini golf! 🙂 And there is Downtown Disney and OldTown to wander around. They are nice places to waste a little time. Hope you have a great time.
TIP::: Dont stress about the crowds and lines, take it for whats its worth and enjoy just being there.

    1. Thank you for the tip! I’m anticipating it to be busy and am going to take the go with the flow approach in efforts not to stress out about not seeing everything 🙂

  3. I hope you have fun!! We went to the beach last year it was a 3 hour drive from our house and my little guys at the time were 1 and 4 so it was a bit hectic. My only advice would be leave early so they sleep most of the way and make sure you have lots of things to distract them. Toys, coloring books, sticker books things that can be easily stored.

As for the amusement park I take my little kids every year to Hershey Park and each year its horrible so good luck lol

  4. Just try to plan out ahead of time which attractions you want to see once inside of the park. I know my grandsons don’t like us standing around figuring out what to do next.

  5. Have an awesome time!! You can check out some great things to do in Orlando on my site. Don’t miss SeaWorld and the new Antarctica attraction and there are some ideas there on hotels too , staying at the Nick Hotel can be a great option. Also shoot me an email if you want some theme park contacts (don’t have Disney but anything else). Have fun!!!

    1. I read your awesome post with the Antarctica attraction and immediately added it to our list of places to go! 🙂 Thank you!

  6. Congratulations! It will be a great family fun time. Crazy but fun. Hope to hear lots of stories upon your return. Remember to enjoy yourself and your family. Trips can be hard but the memories and smiles are worth it. Have a great time!

  7. When we went to Disney World with our two young children we would get us early spend the morning at the park, then leave and go back to the hotel and everyone take naps and then have a bite to eat and go back to the park when when we are refreshed.

    1. That’s how I’m hoping to do it, sometimes my oldest gets so excited about things she won’t nap but I hope she will!

  8. It has been 12 years since we have had a family vacation…. I have been wanting to go back to Disneyworld, but at this point I would settle for a weekend at the beach 🙂
