Children’s entertainment has changed so much since I was a kid. I grew up in the 80s and you had very few options. Today, there are literally millions of YouTube videos, channels and apps that kids can spend hours in front of the screen watching. Some, lets face it make us want to go hide in the bathroom with a glass of wine and candy (the finger family song for one…). Some, are just creepy, there is one of Elsa dancing with spiderman and its just downright frightening to me but for some reason my kids love it. So, here are a few alternatives that are cute, kid-friendly and not annoying.
My youngest is really into nursery rhymes these days so I’ll start there.
HeyKids puts some pretty good animations with classic children’s nursery rhymes. All the songs are relatively short and there are lots of different videos to watch so your child doesn’t end up watching the same video over and over and over again. There is also an HeyKids iOS app and an HeyKids Android app you can download to watch the videos on.
Sesame Street was my favorite show as a kid and its stood the test of time no doubt. Now though, you don’t have to wait for Sesame Street to come on TV. The Sesame Street YouTube channel has all kinds of great, educational videos, some of them starring your favorite actors and musicians.
My kids love to watch baking and they were hooked on Nerdy Nummies from the moment Rosanna Pansino posted her Elsa and Anna cake tutorials. She’s done some awesome cakes and treats including another favorite of my daughter’s, My Little Pony.
Minecraft Videos (Stampylonghead)
Okay, so his voice can get a bit on the annoying side but if you have a Minecraft fan like I do, Stampylongnose is one of the kid friendly options your child can watch.
