National Painting Week

It’s National Painting Week and it’s got me thinking about our next big home project… the basement! Like many family’s our home has become overrun with toys and now that I’m working full time the time has come to give the girls their own play area and myself a home office.

I’m in the early stages of planning our basement redesign but one thing I know for certain is that I’ll be using Sherwin-Williams paint on the walls. If you have seen my other home projects you know that it’s my favorite paint and the results speak for themselves.

In honor of National Painting Week, Sherwin-Williams made this neat infographic with some highlights statistics from Sherwin-Williams National Home Design and Color Survey.

  1. Interesting chart! I definitely don’t fall under the percentage that feels confident undertaking their own paint job. I am always worried that I will screw up. I was most surprised to read that most men like color in their homes!

    1. I’m confident now but always worry about my color choices but I feel like I like everything brighter now whereas I thought I’d like dark warm cozy colors and painted our entire house dark colors and ended up not liking it at all. Now, I go for bright vibrant colors and it has made such a difference!

  2. I didn’t think that men like color in their homes. I can’t get my husband to agree to anything other than off white in my house and when I insisted that we choose a moss green for the bedroom he was shocked and still can’t get used to it. He is afraid the rooms will look like a series of easter eggs.

    1. My husband tends to go towards darker colors so when I showed him the new bright colors I wanted to bring into the house he was a little nervous but now he loves them! They just add fun and vibrance to the house 🙂

  3. All of the walls in our house are the same off-white color… which is boring, but then I can change the colors of everything else in the room. I would like to paint my bedroom at least

  4. We are renting right now so we can’t paint and it’s killing me! I love bright colors and even painted patterns and I’m stuck in a land of builders’ beige! Have fun everyone!

  5. Interesting statistics and chart! We are moving soon and are in the process of trying to find paint colors for a few rooms (to start). More difficult than I thought after years of not being able to paint.

  6. We’re in the middle of painting right now. We moved into a house full of all kinds of weird, bright colors.
Back to white paint they go.
