While we have many electronic toys that my daughter loves to play with I love to encourage her to use her imagination and create. She, like most kids, has the most fun with a laundry basket or a few pillows and a blanket to make a fort. She’s 2.5 now and at an age where she can really get into craft time, which is great to continue to encourage her creativity. Manhattan toy, a specialty toy maker, just launched a new line of 28 fun arts & crafts, puppet kits and DIY kits and games called “imagine i CAN™”
These neat kits have been featured on The View and Parenting magazine named them as one of the best toys of the Toy Fair. There are kits perfect for your child’s interest or age range including games, activities, knitting and other fun crafts. Some of them even come with a tin for storage and traveling.
We picked out two kits from the imagine I CAN series – the Lace & Play Fish and Finger Paint Fun.
The Lace & Play Fish comes in a box – inside the box is a sheet of die cut shapes, plastic lace and a set of googly eyes. Each of the scales of the fish have two die cut holes in them that you lace through the and attache them to the fish shape. When your project is done you have a cute 3D cardboard fish.
This was Pinky’s first real craft project and we had a great time putting her fish together. After guiding her through a couple of times lacing through it she had it down pat. I did have to show her along the way which holes to place her lace through next but it was a great starter craft for a toddler. Now, we have an adorable little fish keepsake of her first crafting experience!
The Imagine I Can Finger Paint Fun set comes in a nice tin lunchbox-like carry case. Inside it there are 4 small paint tubs, 3 plastic stampers and 3 plastic scrapers. This was Pinky’s first time ever using finger paints!
The paints were odorless and washed off easily when she was done. She had a good old time using her fingers and the stampers and scrappers. I think the tools that came with it were neat and let her create all kinds of textures and patterns in her work of art. When she was done I just needed to wipe her with a wet wipe and the paint came off. The paint tubs are also washable so I closed them and ran them under the faucet and did the same with the tools. I really thought cleanup would be a lot harder but really it wasn’t bad at all and it all fits nicely back into the tin for storage.
The Manhattan Toy Imagine I Can toys we’re a hit with my toddler and I’m very pleased with the fun and creative activity it provided her. They kept my VERY busy toddler entertained for hours (which is no easy feat)!
