Pinky loves all things princess, sparkly and fru fru. We’ve been redoing her brand new big girl room over the past year and it’s slowly turned into the most purple, pony, princessey room ever.
Well it just got put over the top with the HearthSong Fairy-Tale Bed Tent. I literally gasped when I found it in the HearthSong catalog knowing how perfect for Pinky it is and I was lucky enough to be offered the chance to review it and share my thoughts with you.
The Fairy-Tale Bed Tent arrived in a decent sized box. When you open the box you’ll find lots of tubes and a whole lot of tulle and of course instructions.
I’ll admit when I took all the tulle out of the box I was overwhelmed. I didn’t know which way was up or which side was left right, anything. If you’ve ever worked with a lot of tulle, you probably know what I’m talking about 🙂
First, I put together the tubes as instructed. This part was simple and kinda fun to put together. Next came figuring out the tulle “carriage” cover.
The instructions are written out so there wasn’t a good visual on what was the top and what goes under the mattress. So I first found the 4 corners and laid it out flat on the ground. Then I slipped each of the tulle corners around the corners of the tubes. Once I had that part done it was very easy. I pulled the tulle up and over the top, leaving the hole in the tulle at the very top center where the chandelier goes (yes, it includes the chandelier 🙂 more on that later).
The next step was a bit tricky and took two adults to complete. You need to slip the twin sized mattress in through one of the side doors of the bed tent. It’s a tight fit and takes some maneuvering but once it’s in there you are set.
Setting the mattress on top of the tent is also one of the most important features to me. We’ve had bed tents in the past that just have elastic that goes on each corner of the mattress and they always ended up slipping off. This can lead to the tent folding up and as you can imagine, a scared toddler who thinks her bed tent is trying to eat her.
Being that this sits on top of the mattress, once it’s on its on and won’t slip off and stays put beautifully.
Then you just tie the ties on the tulle around the tubes to hold it in place, tie the fru fru flowers on each side of the doors and hang the chandelier up in the middle. Voila, done and here is what it looks like –
The chandelier is quite pretty, with clear beads it looks elegant at night and doubles as a soft nightlight. It runs off of a regular electrical outlet so you just run the thin silver wire around down one of the tubes and plug it in. Your child can then control it with a simple on off switch.
The quality is great too, it’s very sturdy and the tulle is great quality.

My little girl absolutely loves her Fairy-Tale Bed Tent! She talked non-stop and was telling everyone about it. I have to say, as a child I would have LOVED to have one of these too. It’s so princessy and makes her bed a cozy little spot for her to sleep in or curl up and snuggle and read a book.
The Fairy-Tale Bed Tent is available from HearthSong. Check out this and all of the great children’s items they have. They have so many amazing toys and more, we always look forward to paging through the catalogs!
