Choosing a Comfortable Bed for your Child

Comfortable Childrens Beds

Comfortable Childrens BedsWhen I started to look for a new big girl bed for Pinky I did lots of searching for very comfortable childrens beds. I wanted her to have a bed that was first of all safe for toddlers and comfortable but could also make the transition into her teen years. The bed we got is perfect, low to the ground, girly yet modern and very sturdy.

However, with as much effort as I’ve put into her room making it a comfortable, safe, fun and whimsical place for her to sleep in we’ve not had the best of luck getting her to sleep there. Like most children, she definitely prefers to co-sleep and while I love having her in our room, it doesn’t make for the best nights rest. The girl is all over the place in the middle of the night, I honestly don’t know how she does it! She’ll start off between my husband and I and each time I wake up throughout the night she’ll be in a completely different side of the bed. Mind you, we have a king bed so she is REALLY all over the place!

I just wish she would warm up to sleeping in her new room, especially with the new baby on the way because I know once she comes she’ll be even less likely to sleep in her big girl room. We’ve tried sticking to a fun bedtime routine without any luck and outside of just putting a gate up and letting her cry it out (I REALLY want to avoid this because it honestly just breaks my heart). I used to be able to just read her a story, put her in a crib and she’d fall asleep without any crying or fussing. But now, its screaming bloody murder and absolutely refusing to fall asleep. You could sit in there with her for hours trying and she just won’t do it. I’m at a loss of what to do? I’d love to hear any tips you have on getting her to sleep in her room, please comment below with your tips 🙂

  1. my sons only 11 months but i snuggle him til he falls asleep then i move him to his own bed and it seems to work pretty well

  2. My grandsons have always slept in their cribs since they were about 3 days old, so we don’t have that issue. However, we will be moving my older grandson to a big boy bed very soon and we’ll be searching for the perfect bed for him that will last.

  3. My little guy is 20 mo old and I can’t wait for my little guy to sleep in his big boy bed! He’s currently still nursing at night 🙁 so I’m still not getting a good night’s sleep! I’m like you…I can’t let him cry it out either! How old is the right time for a big boy/girl bed? He’s really only nursing at naptime and bed time…and then in the middle of the night. I think it’s going to be a hard transition but maybe I’ve heard how others do it-they start by putting the mattress on the floor in their room and eventually move into the kid’s bedroom. Maybe i’ll try that!

  4. I wish I could give you some tips! My almost 3 year old took forever to sleep in a big boy bed. We converted his crib but he didn’t like it – so we put him back into his crib. Then just a few months ago we moved and bought him a new bed – it took one night – and he slept. Now we have no issues. I say, keep up wit hit. Maybe read some books, or try moving bedtime up 15/20 minutes. Good luck mama!

  5. How about putting a chair next to her bed and rubbing her back until she falls asleep..and then gradually start moving towards you not having to be there. The first couple of nights you would rub her back, then rub it just for a few minutes and then move the chair a few feet away until she falls asleep, then just sit in the chair by the door, etc. until you are able to just put her down then leave the room? Hope this helps!

  6. I had a similar bed for my son, love the extra storage! 🙂 What I had to do with my son was lay in bed with him until he fell asleep. It wasn’t an ideal situation but it worked for us, I hope I have better luck with my daughter when she gets to that point, but maybe a special nightlight would work? Those Twilight Turtles and Ladybugs are really cool, they project stars and they moon on the ceiling. 🙂

  7. I wish I had some tips for you, but unfortunately I’m going through the same thing… my 18 month old used to sleep through the night, I would simply put her in the crib and she would go to sleep on her own… now she screams until we give in and let her sleep with us :/

  8. Oh man, I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. I am too. I wish I had some tips but I don’t. Kiddo sleeps with me most nights and the baby also sleeps in my room. I say just wait it out and keep trying. I’m sure eventually it will be fun for her. We got a cool night light that helped a little bit, but it’s inevitable that sometime during the night she’ll wake up and be in bed with me again.

  9. We also co-sleep with my almost 1 year old…I’m pretty worried about how he’ll take the transition to his own room when the time comes. Best of luck, please update us on how things progress!

  10. were going through this with our boy now, we have to get a lower bed as you did that’s a great idea. The transition is going to be difficult as we’ll be moving in the nes 3 weeks also wish me luchk thx for the article.
